Kalimba 'Sansula' - Standard / A minor

The Sansula consists of a small kalimba with a solid cherry wood body, mounted on a synthetic resonance skin, itself stretched over an oval beech frame. It is equipped with 9 stainless steel blades, staggered in length and organized on 2 keyboards (5 at the bottom and 4 at the top), perfectly tuned to the 440 Hz tuning fork.

One of the specificities of this Sansula is the possibility of producing a very interesting "Wah-Wah" effect. This requires placing the instrument on a flat surface such as a table or even the knees, then lifting it slightly by pulling it apart and bringing it closer to this support, while playing.

The sonority of the Sansula is exceptional, both sweet and powerful, bewitching.

We offer you different tunings, each with their own character, to best suit your desires and your projects.

This is the original tuning of the Sansula, called "standard", which accompanied the creation of this fabulous instrument from its beginnings! It is based on an A minor chord, enriched with notes tuned to the additional notes B and F.

The Kalimba, commonly nicknamed "Piano à Pouces" by its mode of play, is a percussion instrument (family of lamellophones and idiophones) originating in Africa. It takes different names depending on the region: Karimba (Uganda), Kondi (Sierra Leone), Likembe (Congo), Mangambeu (Cameroon), Mbila (South Africa), Mbira (Zimbabwe), Sanza (Central Africa), etc ...

She was then taken by slaves to Latin America, where she gave birth to the Cuban Marimbula and the Jamaican Rhumba Box.

Nowadays, there are also "westernized" models, designed to adapt to various musical styles: tuning, design, technical innovations such as resonance skin or amplification, etc ...
